Asian PGA Tour

The PGA Tour has developed and grown in USA and Europe over the last 70 years and has recently begun to expand into Asia. Asian PGA Tour, dating from the Asian Tour of 1995, is one of the six World Professional Golf Tours, which provides a great networking and competition stage for Asian Pros, as well as a wide platform for China Pros taking their place in the world.

After the success of the BAT China PGA League Cup Final in 2000 and 2001, the Asian Tour's Sanya Open in 2003 and 2004 were held in Yalong Bay Golf Club, which were hosted by Sanya Municipal Government and co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and China Golf Association. It is worth mentioning that the Sanya Open of 2003 was a miracle as they had only 20 days to prepare the course for the tournament. Sanya Open was not only a major turning-point in Yalong Bay's history of holding international PGA tournaments, but also made a substantial contribution to the worldwide promotion of Hainan and Sanya's unique tourism resources.

In addition, the first cooperation with the world famous sports management and event company IMG was a really good experience.

With many leading players taking part in the event, such as South African Retief Goosen and New Zealand's Michael Campbell, ranking 7th and 25th in the world respectively, Wales star Philip Price and top Chinese player Zhang Lian-wei, the impact of this tournament went far not only beyond what happened on the course but in doing so helped boost Volkswagen brand image and business.
